FIELD NOTE 002 / CURIOSITY
The answer is the beginning.
A fluent AI answer can close a question too early. Learn to examine assumptions, seek missing perspectives, and turn an answer into a real investigation.
A good answer feels like an arrival. The pieces fit. The uncertainty quiets down. That is useful when you need to act. It can be limiting when you are still trying to understand.
A fluent AI response can make a question feel settled before you have examined its assumptions. The words may be coherent while the evidence is thin. The answer may be reasonable inside a frame that deserves to be questioned.
Try treating the first response as material for inquiry. A map of one possible route, with blank spaces still waiting to be explored.
Open the frame.
Ask what must be true for this answer to hold. Ask whose experience is missing. Ask for a counterexample, a competing explanation, and the kind of evidence that could distinguish them. Then check the evidence rather than accepting another layer of fluent prose.
These questions are useful even when the first answer is correct. They help you discover why it is correct, when it stops being useful, and what you would need to know before acting on it.
Good questions are not a way to postpone every decision. They are a way to make the next decision with a clearer sense of what you know and what you are still guessing.
The productive moment is often where the polished explanation begins to become a real investigation.
